Control Systems Apprentice (Instrument / Electrical)


Position Summary

To train on the job and gain experience in maintenance work to complete all the requirements of a National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Level 4), and a National Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Level 4); becoming a competent, qualified Control Systems Technician.

Position Responsibilities

  • Ensure the formal apprenticeship qualifications required are completed in the appropriate timeframe.
  • Provide support in coordinating and assisting Control Systems Technicians with control systems related work.
  • Train in other related areas of the company to provide an awareness of the work undertaken and interact with the people in these areas.
  • Become familiar with and comply with relevant standards, codes of practice, and New Zealand legislation.
  • Ensures that all maintenance and minor modifications to the plant are implemented in accordance with Methanex standards and best practices.
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings as well as monthly department meetings.

Position Qualifications

  • NCEA Level 2 in Math and English
  • Control systems or electrical pre-trade qualification (preferred)
  • Previous work experience in related field (preferable)
  • Understanding of petrochemical industry
  • Good level of literacy and numeric ability
  • Intermediate level computer skills
  • Ability to problem solve, diagnose and identify solutions
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with a wide cross section of people
  • Ability to learn and develop
  • Current NZ driver’s license
