Graduate Mechanical Engineer


 

Position Summary

Provide effective and professional engineering support to the Mechanical Engineering team ensuring work is completed safely, in a cost-effective manner, within budget and schedule and to the standards required.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine duties that require application and knowledge of basic engineering principles.
  • Assist the Engineering Team in providing reliable and effective mechanical engineering services. Focus on learning and contributing to daily tasks related to safety, reliability, and adapting to changes.
  • Learn and apply engineering standards and best practices to ensure all mechanical engineering work complies with Methanex standards and New Zealand legislation.
  • Participate in hazard, risk, design and reliability reviews.
  • Assist in creating the scope of work for assigned mechanical projects and prepare it for review with Senior Engineers.
  • Participate in the commissioning of assigned mechanical projects with Operations.
  • Assist in developing design and construction work packages that are customer-focused, clear, detailed, and feasible. Ensure these packages meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule targets.
  • Coordinate the design approval process in consultation with other disciplines.
  • Assist in the tender process and help award contracts in collaboration with the Procurement department.
  • Liaise with external mechanical engineering consulting services as required.
  • Stay informed about new or changing legislation and technical developments in I&E engineering to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • BE(Hons) in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics
  • Some understanding or knowledge of standards and procedures and industry best practice
  • Basic level of knowledge of the petrochemical industry
  • Familiar with engineering software packages
  • Some understanding of project management fundamentals
  • Some awareness of a safety culture in engineering
  • Reasoning and analysis potential
  • Recognise important relationships and ability to contribute to and work within a team.
  • Achievement / delivery focus – sets high standards including accuracy and attention to detail
  • Inquisitive / desire to learn, self-motivated, can take initiative and willing to ask questions.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office suite
